Of Marx and College Town Cafes

Here I sit at a cafe in the epitome of a college town. This is my first blog post, so welcome to Plato and Pearls- a self assigned survival tactic to get me through my undergraduate degree in Philosophy. I go to Mount Holyoke College, the oldest institution for higher learning for women in the United States. However, my search for the perfect college experience takes me to the other campuses in the 5-college area (University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Amherst College, Hampshire College, and Smith College)

I am currently enjoying how absurd it is that a text (Communist Manifesto) once so controversial and "dangerous" is now available as a free download on iBooks. So here I am, drinking a cup of tea that cost more than Karl Marx's famous work. The things that come to you when you're procrastinating!

Anyways, my name is Alana and like I previously stated, I attend Mount Holyoke as a Philosophy major. I would define my style as part prep, part overworked, under slept college student. It is my goal to have better style and to look more grown up. This blog will follow my life as a "preppy philosopher" and will contain my musings, quirks, idiosyncrasies, etc.
